Before the game, Chris and I walked around AT&T Park, visiting these statues honoring three of the Giants' all-time greats.
The statue of Willie Mays stands in the plaza at the main entrance to the park, Willie Mays Plaza at the corner of Third and King in San Francisco. Willie's bat is behind him, and it's clear he's just sent one of his 660 home runs into the seats. The 24 palm trees in the plaza honor Mays' number.
Walking down Third Street toward McCovey Cove, we came to another entrance to the park, the Lefty O'Doul gate. The statue here honors the high leg kick of Juan Marichal.
Finally, we reached the water's edge behind right field -- an inlet called China Basin, but better known as McCovey Cove. Crossing the water and walking along the length of the cove, we reached McCovey point across from the back of the main scoreboard. Here, Willie Mac's statue stands with his back to Oakland, looking like he wants to hit one to San Jose.
