While Andy had to be at work, Carmen made sure that we had places to go and things to see. We started by visiting the Farmer's Market in Bad Kreuznach with Erika and her sister, below. Amalia came along too, though all you could see of her were her pink booties.
On one of Andy's days off, he and Carmen brought Amalia for her first visit to the Rhine at the city of Bingen. We enjoyed a walk through a series of art installations in the gardens along the river.
Meanwhile, Joe and Claudia were enjoying their own vacation travels. They had left Claudia's mother Margret with her family in Kassel, Germany, and drove to Waldlaubersheim to spend a few days with us. They wanted to visit a castle, and Carmen took us to Burg Rhinestein, on the Rhine just west of Bingen. Amalia came along too and visited her first castle with us.
The following day, Carmen and Amalia brought the three of us to the highest rock cliffs north of the Alps. The Rotenfels, photos below, rise nearly 220 vertical meters above the Nahe river near the town of Bad Münster. The walk atop the rocks provided beautiful views.
Many thanks to Carmen for being willing to introduce Amalia to road trips, and for giving me, Joe and Claudia such nice memories.
