Andy and Carmen took us across the Rhein at Ingleheim on the same ferry that Carmen takes to work. Our first stop was at Kloster Eberbach, a 12th century Cistercian monastery. Over its history, its cloisters have been used as a hospital, a winery (below), and, more recently, as the set for the 1986 film The Name of the Rose and as a venue of the annual Rheingau Music Festival. The site includes a museum of monastery artifacts. We all noticed its wonderful acoustics and agreed that we would like to go back for a concert! |

Next we visited Eltville, the largest town in the Rheingau, known as the "City of Roses." We enjoyed a walk along the river with a stop for a snack, saw the company where Carmen works, and explored the city's famous gardens. Carmen and Cindy are walking toward the tower. |
