Andy and Carmen took us across the Rhein at Ingleheim on the same ferry that Carmen takes to work. Our first stop was at Kloster Eberbach, a 12th century Cistercian monastery. Over its history, its cloisters have been used as a hospital, a winery (below), and, more recently, as the set for the 1986 film The Name of the Rose and as a venue of the annual Rheingau Music Festival. The site includes a museum of monastery artifacts. We all noticed its wonderful acoustics and agreed that we would like to go back for a concert!

Next we visited Eltville, the largest town in the Rheingau, known as the "City of Roses." We enjoyed a walk along the river with a stop for a snack, saw the company where Carmen works, and explored the city's famous gardens. Carmen and Cindy are walking toward the tower.

The day ended where it began, at the Schlosshof courtyard, where Andy and Carmen set out
plates of meats, cheeses, and breads, along with more wine, for a relaxing dinner.
