Visit to Waikiki
June 2011

On June 28, 2011, Mike gave a talk at a national conference of the American Institute of Aeronatics and Astronautics at the Hawaii Convention Center, near Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. I went along for some fun in the sun, and we stayed for a week.

This is the view from our room on the 24th floor of the Waikiki Marriott.

Duke Kahanomoku popularized surfing in Hawaii in the early 1900s.
I wonder what Duke would think of the number of surfers there now.

We rented a car for one day and drove around the island of Oahu. Mike wanted to snorkle at this cove, Hanauma Bay, a Marine Nature Preserve.

Leaving Hanauma, we went in search of the "Shrimp Shack" and found it along the north shore of the island. Pictures of the famous home of spicy shrimp, and of the beach directly across the street, are below.

Back along Waikiki, the Surfrider Hotel was a favorite place to have lunch.
The two pictures below were taken from there. You can see Diamond Head from the patio.

Aloha, after our brief visit to Waikiki on the island of Oahu.

We also vacationed on the "Big Island" of Hawaii in the fall of 2010 (photos).
