What a brilliantly executed idea! Recycle over a mile of unused elevated rail line through lower Manhattan and convert it into an aerial park. That's the High Line.
Wonderful native landscaping, engaging art, people watching, urban scenes from 30 feet above the street -- it all adds up to a great place to spend an afternoon in the city.
Visiting the High Line was my sister-in-law Claudia's idea.
Good call, Claudia.
Epilog
After walking the High Line, Claudia and I enjoyed some pizza and a walk along the Hudson River, where the late afternoon vistas included the one below.

Joe and Andy joined us later that evening for a wonderful concert at St. Luke in the Fields Church in Greenwich Village. Before the concert, we met in the Church garden where, among other things, we were entertained by a family of squirrels settling in for the night.
