Five Days in
Amsterdam

July 25-29, 2016

After arriving in Europe and spending a weekend with Andy, Carmen and Amalia, Mike and I took the train north to Amsterdam. Our plan was to spend five days there, experience some of the city, and then return to Waldlaubersheim for the rest of our vacation.

Above right, that's Amsterdam's main train station. It's a real hub, connecting to the city's canals and to its network of trams. Below, a canal scene near our hotel, and the view that evening from our window.

Amsterdam is a city of museums and here are three that we visited:

- the Rijksmuseum, home of many Dutch Master works, including Rembrandt's Night Watch

- the Van Gogh Museum, showcasing his works including Wheatfields with Crows

- the National Maritime Museum, where, among other exihibits, we explored a full-size replica of a Dutch East India trading ship

Finally, we celebrated my birthday
during this week in Amsterdam
with a lovely dinner under the umbrellas
at Hoofdstad Brasserie
on the Amstel River.

Wonderful!
