An Alpine Adventure

June 10 - 12, 2023

This page provides a brief description of what Andy did during his alpine adventure. There is a larger collection of his photos linked HERE.

In June 2023, Andy undertook an adventure to experience the Alps in a new way. He joined a group of three other climbers and a guide to learn climbing skills involving "via ferrata" (Wikipedia link opens in a separate window or tab).

They started near the city of Obertsdorf, Germany, where they took a chair lift up into the mountains. On the first day, they crossed into Austria, climbing a ridge and peak along the way, to reach the hut which would be their home base at an altitide of 6500 feet (2000 meters). Their hut is visible in the photo on the left.

The second photo shows the destination for their second day and second via ferrata - the ridge behind Andy.

The round trip on Day 2 involved four hours of climbing before lunch, and then a three and a half hour return over a different route. They climbed four more peaks this day.

The two photos below are a sample from Day 2.

The two photos above are from Day 3, the most challenging of this adventure.

The final ascent went up "2 Länder Sport Klettersteig", their third via ferrata. In Andy's words: "From the bottom to top, it took 90 minutes, pure climbing, no chance to stop or turn around."

The return that day was by gondola, but before they left, they took a group photo.
