Over 2 million people visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium each year. We were there on a relatively uncrowded Friday, exploring exhibits, watching film programs and having lunch.
Above: The Open Sea exhibit, the aquarium's largest tank, holds over 1 million gallons of sea water, providing a habitat for the fish and marine animals that live in the open ocean.
Below: Other exhibits, including the aquarium's famous sea otters, jellyfish and kelp forest.
Left: Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station, located on Monterey Bay next to the aquarium.
Below: Two scenes from Cannery Row, the waterfront section of Monterey. Once home to a thriving sardine canning industry, it is now a tourist center. The aquarium is on one end of Cannery Row, with numerous shops and restaurants within walking distance.
