Uncle Andy Comes to Visit
April 2014

My brother Andy came from New York for a five-day visit in April 2014. We covered a lot of territory in those five days, often with camera in hand. In addition to the travels that you'll see on these pages, we also took in a Stanford baseball game, and Andy attended concert in which I was in the chorus.

Pescadero Beach

I met Andy at the airport on Monday, April 7. We realized that our only chance to see a sunset at the beach would be that evening, and so, after a little relaxing at the house, we took off for a drive over to the coast, with stops for wine and to take a short walk in the woods.

Big Basin State Park

Andy said that he wanted to get a closer look at redwoods, and so we spent most of Tuesday at Big Basin State Park, home of the largest stand of old growth redwoods in this area. Afterward we stopped at another winery, and that night watched Stanford come from behind to beat UC Davis on the baseball diamond.

San Francisco

On Wednesday, Andy and I took the train to San Francisco, where we walked along the harbor and then wandered into the city. We saw the Financial District and China Town, had lunch in North Beach, and then headed to Fisherman's Wharf and a cable car ride back to the train station. We got home in time for a concert rehearsal for me, and another photo opportunity in the church for Andy.

The next day, Thursday, was the day of the concert and also Andy's last full day in California. Andy and Mike took off for another hike -- this one in Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve. I stayed home to rest and get ready for the concert. It was especially nice for me to have my brother in the audience.
