 AT&T Park Kale Garden

It was a beautiful night, and I was enjoying it all with Erika, a new friend and avid Giants' fan. Below, Lou Seal is admiring a new feature of the park - a 4300-square-foot garden behind the centerfield wall, featuring sunflowers, organic veggies, and two different places to eat, drink and cheer for the Giants.

Eventual game hero, rookie Kelby Tomlinson (37) was waiting along the left field line with Nori Aoki (23), Brandon Belt (9), Gregor Blanco (7) and Matt Duffy (5), along with an unidentified Man in Black.

In the first inning, Nori Aoki got the Giants started with a double to left. You can see the ball in this picture - it looks like a white blur on the infield in front of Cardinal first baseman, Mark Reynolds. The on-deck hitter, Matt Duffy, would walk, but the Giants' 3-4-5 hitters left them stranded.

In the top of the third inning, I took my long lens off to take this picture of the crowd. There was no score at this point, but that would change in the bottom of the third, when Marlon Byrd hit a grand slam home run. The 4-0 lead was short-lived, however, as the Cardinals got three back in the next half inning.

The third picture shows Cardinal starter, Michael Wacha, pitching to Kelby Tomlinson in the fifth inning, with Gregor Blanco on first base. After the Giants didn't score, the Cardinals knotted the game at 4 - 4 in the 6th.

Giants' starter, Mike Leake, was taken out in the 6th, and the three relievers, below, pitched scoreless ball for the rest of the way - Josh Osich (61), Sergio Romo (54), and eventual game-winner, Javier Lopez (49).

Giants win

And here's how it ended . . .

With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th, the Cardinals brought in Kevin Siegrist to pitch to Brandon Belt. Belt singled, followed by a walk to Buster Posey. After Marlon Byrd recorded the first out, Gregor Blanco drew a walk to load the bases.

The Cardinals then gave their left-fielder a new glove, and positioned him as an extra infielder. With the 5-man infield playing in, the next batter, Kelby Tomlinson, knocked a single up the middle. Game over!

This picture shows the set up for the walk off celebration. The crowd sensed what was coming, and Miss Posey was just getting a head start.
