Death Valley

November 12-15, 2016

Mike and I left on November 10 to drive to Las Vegas, with an overnight stop in the middle of California at Harris Ranch. Joe and Claudia flew to Las Vegas from New York, arriving late on November 11. We connected over breakfast the next morning, and set off for our distination - Death Valley National Park [National Park Service site, opens in a separate browser window or tab]. In the photo above, Mike, Joe and Claudia are standing together looking out over Dante's View.

I have too many photos from Death Valley to show them all on one page, so they are divided into the following:

The ride from Las Vegas to Death Valley got us to the national park at around noon. Most of that afternoon was spent visiting easily accessible spots like Badwater, the Devil's Golf Course, and the Artist's Palette. Later we checked in for our stay at the Furnace Creek Inn. Our first stop the next day was a Ranger-guided walk through Golden Canyon. Afterward we drove to Dante's View and Zabriski Point, and visited the other golf course in Death Valley. Click on the photo to see more of our second day. Golden Canyon, Death Valley
Another canyon walk - this through Mosaic Canyon - highlighted our third day. We also went in search of pupfish and sunset on the dunes - neither of which we managed to find. Click on the photo to see more of our third day. Death Valley Sand Dunes
Finally we left the Furnace Creek Inn and said goodbye to Death Valley. Our journey home included a stop in the town of Lone Pine and a visit to the Alabama Hills. We crossed the Sierras by way of Tioga Pass and Yosemite National Park. Click on the photo to see more of our ride home. Mount Whitney
