TUESDAY
An Afternoon
with Markus
Gebruder Kauer Wein

This was a day for local sightseeing, and a lot of wine tasting. We were led by Carmen's cousin, Markus, freeing Andy and Carmen to stay home and take care of wedding preparations.

Markus took us first to the city of Bad Kreuznach, one of the largest and loveliest cities in the Nahe wine region. This picture was taken from a bridge crossing the Nahe River.

Later we visited two local wineries. At Gut Hermannsberg, we enjoyed wine on their patio, along with cheese, bread and some impressive views (below).

The second winery we visited, Gebrüder Kauer, is operated by Markus and his brother. They are the 14th generation of their family to operate this winery. We were joined in their tasting room by Joe, Jane and Roy, who had arrived from their own vacation travels.
Much conversation, and more wine drinking, followed.

Schnitzel dinner

Finally, Markus brought us to one of his favorite restaurants for an authentic German dinner.

How do you order for 15 people who can't read the menu,
and have been drinking all afternoon? Easy - schnitzel for everyone, with tureens of sauces, and bowls of spaetzel and vegetables. Wunderbar!

Thank you, Markus.
